Plastazote

This was a short 2 week project on making a Plastazote mask, I've had a small amount of experience with plastazote but here I learnt how to manipulate it properly. I made a leopard mask!
Toile out of card, making up the pattern pieces for the plasterzote
Havent got a picture of the side of the head but its made up of three pattern pieces with darts in to get the head to be rounded. The contact adhesive glue was a pain!!! the problem is it often takes so long to go off, and judging when it has gone off - it has to be perfect timing or it wont glue -. The trick is when it feels dry, its ready!
You can see in this picture Ive begun attempting to carve the nose...
Painting.......! had to prime it, then mix up latex and acrylic, meant to be more acrylic than latex, I think like 1:9
SPOTS .........also some ear fluff (feathers)..........i also cut into some Rigilene and used it as whiskers
miow
and me modelling my mask with a fellow mouse! I don't know what other people think when they look into the costume room and see us all in animal masks.......

The Witches - Design and Make

These are a few images from my design and make project last term. I designed for the Roald Dahl book "The Witches" my designs were quite conceptual and fantastical.(dont have pictures of designs today) I decided to make my design for the Grand High witch. and here I have a few images of my process.

Toile (without arms) I had difficulty creating the structure on the hips

With an arm, my model had shoulders at different heights so this garment was made to fit her perfectly

First fitting in top fabric was a nightmare getting the dress to be fitted where I wanted it to be and getting the structure to stay!
I was working with velvet all over (for the first time) some puckering darts here.

Another fitting with the feathered neckline. Here I was working out whether the spikes were level with her and in her heels. They were made out of plasterzote and covered in velvet. I originally imagined them to be backed onto a stiff fabric - this didn't work neither did boning or putting wire in them. So i turned to plasterzote for the first time!
This is me with my dress wearing another students dress (im wearing a fat suit) we decided we looked like aunt sponge and aunt spiker!
Not too practical....

But looks effective ...?

Cabaret

Hi! these are some of my drawings and designs for cabaret. These are quite early stages and are sort of my developments rather than final designs. I'm just playing around with costume and technique really!
Cabaret girl possibly "Two Ladies"
Cabaret Boy
My workspace !

Cabaret girls! well some of them..."Wilkommen"

Sally and some girls

Sally looking rather haggered "Cabaret"

Current project is designing the costumes for "Cabaret" I'm really loving it and just have found too much inspiration from the 1930s and more. Trying to make it really seedy slutty and dark, these are just some drawings so far. Would love to hear any feedback or opinions...............Ive also realised these pictures are rubbish and I will try to upload new ones and rotate them!
